its our turn to eat is a book about a kenyan anti-corruption official who had to flee into exile near the end of Moi's regime (ended 2003. i might be botching this but youll soon know why)
i go to all these book stores looking for it and all the indian dudes (almost all the book stores are owned by indians, who, incidentally, are [generally] disliked more than any particular kenyan tribe. apparently they are mean bosses [generally]) tell me they are all out.
finally i get fed up and ask my coworkers why i cant find it. apparently, selling the book isnt so much 'illegal' as unwise --- bookstores found selling it have gotten raided and fined up to several million shillings. and all the people on the street who sell it are sold out.
what the fu**, kenya?
