- long bus ride home brought up a pretty interesting observation: besides tin-roofed, wood or mud brick houses, there are only three consistencies across the (very biologically, demographically, sociologically, culturally diverse) kenyan countryside:
- cellphone providers who paint every fricking store front with their logos - not just their own store fronts mind you, but every store front, such that an unsuspecting traveler might think that the key ethnic divisions in kenya lay between the safaricoms and zains. service is also good evvvverywhere.
- churches, which exist even where people dont seem to live.
- coke, which is often cheaper than water and comes in glass bottles that appear to have been used since the 60's.
cellphones, churches, and coke ==> corporate capitalism and christianity. if only kenya could move one letter down the alphabet to d for development...
