Update

- visited parliament (took three trips - we were rejected for lack of dress shoes, tie, and almost rejected again until i started making a bit of a scene). it was fun. a lot more like british parliament - people yelling at eachother and such

- watched a nigerian movie. with all due respect to nollywood, it was pretty terrible. the basic plot of all nollywood movies is god vs african magic (guess who wins?) and a rejection of traditional african values for true love.

- hiked through some sorrounding towns outside the ku campus - raced along the train tracks with big groups of kids returning from school. a good way to guarantee that you are liked by kenyan kids is to (1) know somthing about soccer, (2) play soccer with them, (3) play some game that mimics soccer skills

-  made friends with a local family who has invited us for dinner and whose kids play sports and have picked out several books for me - ngugi's prison diaries is the current selection

- im thinking that immediately following the end of classes i will take a trip to uganda and rwanda and circle back around lake victoria to meet friends who will be climbing mt kilimanjaro in zanzabar. i dont know how the timing will work out though
